Ars Techne: Creative Design and Innovation

Ministerial Awards ceremony in Zagreb, 2019

Ars- techne is a network coordinated by the University of Maribor, that plays an important role in the field of textile education.

An important and visible achievement of the network is a series of international CEEPUS Winter Schools, known as Design Week. Their aim was to cover the whole spectrum of modern engineering design of clothing and/or other textile forms in the broadest sense, including the closely related areas, such as: Art, colour/light theory, fashion theory, photography, wearable computer technology, smart and intelligent clothing, ergonomics of the thermal environment and innovativeness. The aim of an interdisciplinary concept of the Winter Schools is the interaction of different disciplines, the combination of scientific and artistic disciplines and the connection of the creativity of students from different universities and from various countries. Within the framework of the lectures and a wide range of targeted Workshops, the students dealt with the theoretical and practical aspects of design in the broadest sense. The network won the CEEPUS Ministers' Prize of Excellence 2019.

Building Knowledge and Experience Exchange in CFD

Network coordinators after a meeting

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses and solves problems that involve flows like gases or liquids.

Computers are used to simulate a model that shows how these fluids flow and interact with the surfaces and solids of the model. CFD is used to pre-engineer complex areas where the right temperatures and flows are critical factors. It is a very powerful tool that shows in advance how temperature, pressure and velocity are going to behave in a design. This Network with established contacts between scientists who deal with CFD, offers exchange of information, knowledge and experience and the participation of common research projects and other activities. It organizes lectures, seminars, summer courses and scientific conferences and workshops. Special emphasize is also on the usage of laboratory equipment of the partners within the network. Mobilities are planned for undergraduates, graduates as well as for teachers. Additionally, 6 of the partner institutes in 5 different CEEPUS member countries offer two different Joint PhDs.

What our scholars have to say
Georgi Mladenov
Working on his master thesis in Sorpon (HU)
“My CEEPUS exchange exceeded my expectations. I managed to progress a lot with my thesis and to acquire new skills in the field of mathematics. I made great contacts both with lectures and students. I hope to welcome my colleagues from the University of Sopron in Ruse (BG) next semester.”
Prof. Jelka Gersak
Professor and network coordinator, Ljubljana
It is important to point out that the activities that have taken place in the framework of student mobility, especially of PhD students, do not end with the end of the mobility, but remain as an important link, in the framework of joint scientific articles and publications in co-authorship.
Iva Vujovic
Exchange student in Vienna
I learned a lot from some professors about topics that aren't really talked about much in my home University. And even when we do mention them, it's more theoretical and harder to understand than it is through practical learning, which we did in Vienna.
